After getting a tattoo, it's crucial to protect it from sun exposure to prevent fading and damage to the healing skin. For the first two weeks, keep the tattoo completely covered when outside. Once the tattoo has healed, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to the tattooed area whenever you are exposed to the sun. This not only protects the skin but also helps maintain the vibrancy of your tattoo colors.
It is important to avoid swimming, including in the ocean, until your tattoo has fully healed. Ocean water contains salt and various microorganisms that can cause infections in a fresh tattoo. Typically, you should wait at least three to four weeks before going swimming. This wait time allows the tattoo to heal sufficiently and forms a protective layer over the ink. If you must be near the ocean, keep the tattoo covered and dry to avoid complications.
Bali's tropical climate can impact the healing process of your tattoo. To aid healing, keep the tattooed area clean and dry. Apply the recommended aftercare products sparingly to avoid excessive moisture, which can lead to issues like bacterial growth. Also, wear breathable, loose clothing to allow air circulation around the tattoo.
Before your tattoo session, make sure to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy meal to keep your blood sugar stable. Hydration is key, so drink plenty of water beforehand. Avoid alcohol and aspirin as they can increase bleeding. It's also a good idea to wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the area you are getting tattooed.
